Join us on ZOOM, January 21st, at 5 PM PST as we explore the history, the mystery, and future of this storied vineyard with one of the founding fathers of the Santa Barbara County wine industry and long time champion of Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir, winemaker Ken Brown. Matt and Ken will draw back the curtain on what happened to Cargasacchi Vineyard and discuss special features of the site, the soil, and what made the wine from this vineyard so stunning. The two will taste back vintages of Cargasacchi from both SAMsARA Wine Co. and Ken Brown Wines.

Matt and Ken will compare and contrast Cargasacchi with Rancho La Viña Vineyard located just across the canyon. They’ll open and taste both the SAMsARA and Ken Brown’s 2017 Rancho La Viña Pinot Noirs as well to inform the discussion.

ABOUT THE VINEYARD

Cargasacchi Vineyard’s unique terroir made it one of Sta. Rita Hills’ most iconic vineyards for many years. Planted several miles down the chalky-white walls of Sweeney Canyon in west Sta. Rita Hills, the vineyard lies square in the ‘vein’ of diatomaceous earth that extends diagonally through the appellation. The combination of D.E. and mineral rich soils help drive complex flavors while the windy, cool climate conditions of western Sta. Rita Hills help to naturally moderate yields, and make for balanced wines with structure, and depth.
