ABOUT THE VINTAGE
Here are some thoughts Matt has about the 2013 vintage . . .
2013 was a very warm year, with low yields across the board. Fruit was dark, powerful, tannic, ripe. Personally speaking, even though I generally lean away from ripe powerful vintages/styles, the 2013’s were extremely well balanced ‘big’ wines. . . The 2013s have a lot of longevity and aging potential due to high flavor concentration and structure. I find them more interesting at this time than upon release, now that some of the ‘loud and upfront’ qualities have made way for the more interesting and complex flavors/aromatics.

(4) 2013 Syrah – Zotovich Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills – 92 Points – The Wine Advocate “Possessing more berry fruits, pepper, violets and hints of minerality, the 2013 Syrah Zotovich (100% stems and aged two years in neutral barrels) is medium to full-bodied, plump and layered, with beautiful ripeness and texture, as well as a fresh, lively style. This is another cool climate beauty from SAMsARA that readers shouldn’t miss.” – Jeb Dunnuck
(4) 2013 Syrah – Melville Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills – 94 Points – Wine Advocate Violets, plums, incense and potpourri all emerge from the full-bodied, supple and downright sexy 2013 Syrah Melville Vineyard. Lifted, perfumed and complex, with no hard edges. Drink it anytime over the coming 7-8 years. This release saw one-third whole clusters and the standard two years in neutral barrels. -Jeb Dunnuck

Rita Hills – 94 Points – Wine AdvocateThis inky colored wine is a classic cool climate California Syrah, Rich, bold and powerful it has notable depth and exoticness from the 100% whole cluster. At a recent tasting our winemaker, Matt Brady, described the 2013 Turner Syrah as having a nose that bursts with aromas of pepper, game, smoked bacon, olive tapenade and ripe dark fruit in a medium to full-bodied wine that is textured and balanced. -Jeb Dunnuck
